As Google Keeps Changing Algorithms, Can Your Dealership’s Website Keep Up?

THE GOOD NEWS: Google’s made new changes to their algorithm.

THE BAD NEWS: Google’s made new changes to their algorithm.

Google keeps changing their algorithm. How on earth are dealerships supposed to keep pace with these changes and still attain optimal results?

The most recent changes involve serving up the best FRESH search results, as Google figures that you are probably looking for the most relevant and recent information when searching for products, places or things online.

Here’s a Quote from Google on the Recent Change:

“Building upon the momentum from Caffeine, today we’re making a significant improvement to our ranking algorithm that impacts roughly 35 percent of searches and better determines when to give you more up-to-date relevant results for these varying degrees of freshness.”

Google Even Offered Information that Directly Relates to Car Dealers:

“Frequent updates. There are also searches for information that changes often, but isn’t really a hot topic or a recurring event. For example, if you’re researching the best SLR cameras, or you’re in the market for a new car and want Subaru Impreza Reviews, you probably want the most up to date information.”

What’s This Mean for Your Dealership?

It means that your website needs to offer content in a way that allows Google to know that it’s recent and relevant, and with so many different (and shifting) variables in place this is getting harder and harder for one person at a dealership to do every day.

Your website needs to be coded in a way that is optimized for Google’s spiders and robots to crawl and index quickly, frequently and effectively. Your dealer’s site needs to be coded this way today, and it needs to be coded in a way that can adapt to change as quickly as Google’s Algorithms change.

With the Most Recent Google Changes Made a Few Weeks Ago…

Your website’s code and content ALSO need to convey to Google that your dealership’s site has the information that your customers (and Google’s customers) are looking for.

If done right, your dealership will reap the rewards of gaining more traffic, visitors and higher rankings within Google searches, which means more car sales and higher profits. If done wrong, your dealerships will lose more traffic, lose more visitors and move down to lower positions within Google search engine results, which means less car sales and lower profits.
